Ekiti pensioners suffering great hardship – NUP leadership cries out

The leadership of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners in Ekiti State has cried out over the maltreatment of its members by the Ekiti State government.

Speaking during the new year prayer in Ado Ekiti, Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners, Temitope Popoola, lamented that his members are seriously suffering due to irregular payment of their gratuities, check-off dues, and other benefits.

In his address, titled “The Agony of Pensioners,” Popoola alleged that Ekiti pensioners are the least paid in the country, adding that many of them are currently being subjected to untoward hardship due to the inability to receive their gratuities.

He alleged that many people in power have shielded them from seeing the Governor, saying he had written over ten different letters to seek the audience of the Governor to no avail.

The NUP chairman appealed to Governor Oyebanji to prevail on his people to stop using his influence and government power to promote illegalities.

According to him, some elements in government connived with some members of the Union, whom he said were indicted, to form an association not known to law.

Popoola said members of NUP would not be dismayed and would continue to fight for the rights of members without fear or compromise.
