Emir Sanusi suspends Kano village head over alleged illegal sale of farmland

The 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has suspended the Village Head of Rikadawa, Malam Rabi’u Yusuf, over allegations of involvement in the unauthorised sale of farmland in Madobi Local Government Area.

The suspension was announced on Wednesday during a hearing held at the Kano Emirate Council.

The announcement was made through the District Head of Kano, Alhaji Ali Ibrahim Ahmad Matawalle, and the Waziri of Kano, Alhaji Sa’ad Shehu Gidado.

The case was brought before the Emirate following complaints against the suspended village head and Isah Dahiru, the son of a district head.

They were accused of selling farmland belonging to the late District Head of Madobi, Alhaji Sale Musa Kwankwaso, without his knowledge or approval.

Representatives of the Emirate said their investigation found that the village head played a role in the alleged transaction. They described the action as a betrayal of the trust and authority vested in traditional leaders by the Kano Emirate.

One of the complainants, Muddasir Dahiru, told the Emirate Council that he submitted a petition after discovering that the district head’s son and the village head allegedly sold portions of the farmland to him without obtaining the owner’s consent.

The Emirate has not yet announced any further disciplinary measures as investigations into the matter continue.
