Former Manchester United midfielder, Paul Scholes, has said that Declan Rice has not been Arsenal’s best player this season.
The Englishman thinks Jurrien Timber has made a bigger impact for the Premier League leaders.
Rice has been one of the best players for Mikel Arteta’s team this season as the Gunners are currently four points ahead of Manchester City.
However, if they beat Manchester United on Sunday, their lead will increase to seven points.
But Scholes, who won 11 Premier League titles with Manchester United, thinks Martin Zubimendi has been just as important in Arsenal’s midfield and says Arteta’s defenders have had a bigger impact on the team’s performance this season.
Scholes when asked on The Overlap’s latest fan debate said, “Has Declan Rice been that special this year? I really like him, but right now I can’t see him as the best player in the league.
“I believe your defenders have likely had a bigger impact than Declan Rice. I like him, but I just want to say I don’t think he’s the best player in the Premier League this year.
“I just think your defenders have had a bigger impact, people like Timber. I think Timber has been unbelievable.
“I think he has been brilliant. I can’t say that Zubimendi has been better than Rice or that Rice has been better than Zubimendi.”
Arsenal will take on Manchester United at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday afternoon and a win against the Red Devils would bring the Gunners back to seven points ahead of Manchester City.
