EPL: Mourinho, Michael Carrick named as likely replacements for Amorim at Man United

Former Manchester United assistant manager, Rene Meulensteen, has tipped Michael Carrick to replace Ruben Amorim as the club’s manager.

He also said that former Red Devils’ boss, Jose Mourinho could be in line to return to the club.

Meulensteen believes that Carrick, who has once served as interim manager at Old Trafford, ‘might be the obvious option’ should the Red Devils sack Amorim.

Carrick was sacked by Championship side Middlesbrough at the end of last season after he led them to a 10th-place finish.

The Englishman coached Middlesbrough for three seasons before he was sacked in June.

“Michael Carrick might be the obvious option if Ruben Amorim is to go,” Meulensteen told BetVictor, as quoted by Metro.

“Obviously Michael Carrick still knows quite a few players that were there when he was there. So he’s still got some good inside information. He obviously knows the club.

“He knows what’s expected from the club.”

“Jose Mourinho’s out of the job as well. So that will be thrown around.”
