Nollywood actress Halima Abubakar has made an emotional public appeal for financial assistance to undergo surgery for a brain tumour, saying she requires about ₦25 million to cover medical treatment, post-operative care and basic living expenses. In a series of tearful social media broadcasts from Abuja, the visibly frail actress said her condition has deteriorated to a critical stage.
Abubakar disclosed that she relocated to Abuja to be closer to the Turkish Hospital, where she hopes to receive treatment. She said her health challenges have left her unable to work for an extended period, draining her savings and pushing her into severe financial distress.
In one of the videos, the actress claimed she had just been evicted from her residence after her landlady allegedly rejected a rent payment she attempted to make using funds previously donated for her medical care. “I have just been evicted from my house. I have been diagnosed with a brain tumour… Do they want me to kill myself?” she said amid tears.
Addressing skepticism from some members of the public, Abubakar insisted her condition is genuine. “Only a mad person would lie about being sick. It is embarrassing and heartbreaking that people think I am lying. I am ashamed to do this, but it is my only option,” she said.
In her appeal, the actress directly called on several high-profile Nigerians for help, including Seyi Tinubu, former Kogi State governor Yahaya Bello, social media activist VeryDarkMan, and music executive Don Jazzy, whom she claimed had not responded to her calls.
In a related development, the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has lifted the indefinite suspension placed on Abubakar in October 2024. The outgoing National President, Emeka Rollas, announced the decision during a handover ceremony in Abuja, stating that it would be unfair to deny her the opportunity to work amid her health crisis.
Her situation has sparked conversations across social media about the lack of structured welfare and health support systems for Nigerian entertainers, as colleagues and fans react to the distressing images and pleas. As of the time of filing this report, no official medical documents or donation channels had been publicly released.
