Ex-Deputy Gov Aliyu-Gusau wins ADC governorship ticket in Zamfara

A former Zamfara State Deputy Governor, Mahdi Aliyu-Gusau, has won the African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship primary in the state.

The Chairman of the ADC Governorship Primaries Committee, Mr. Namadi Musa. announced the results of the primary election on Saturday in Gusau.

Musa said Mahdi Aliyu-Gusau, son of Gen. Aliyu Gusau (rtd), defeated two other aspirants in the election.

The former deputy governor polled 35,665 votes to defeat Abdul’mutallab Ahmed-Mohammed with 15,922 votes, while Shehu Ahmed Musa scored 7,642 votes.

“Mahdi Aliyu-Gusau, having scored the highest votes and having met the guidelines of the 2026 Electoral Act and the requirements of the party, is hereby declared winner of the primary election,” Musa stated.

He also announced Shehu Rafi as the party’s flag-bearer for Zamfara North Senatorial District.

He declared Mr. Atiku Abubakar-Saleh as the candidate for Zamfara West and Mr. Mika’ila Bello as the candidate for Zamfara Central Senatorial District in the 2027 elections.
