The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, on Wednesday warned the Chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council, AMAC, Christopher Maikalangu against the indiscriminate naming of roads in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, after people without due authorization.

Akpabio warned the AMAC Chairman never to name roads constructed with federal government funds after “his mother” and “palm wine tapper in his village.”

Speaking during the inauguration of roads in Gaduwa Districts of the FCT to mark President Bola Tinubu’s third year anniversary, Akpabio commended the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike for issuing a similar warning.

Earlier, Wike had cautioned the Chairman against naming roads constructed by the FCT Administration under his leadership without approval.

Wike said Maikalangu can only name roads constructed using council funds and not those done by the FCTA.

However, Akpabio said: “Senior officials of the FCT Administration, the chairmen of the area councils of the FCT particularly the one that has just been warned that we will not spend money from the federal government to construct road then you will name it after your mother.

“It’s important for you to note that he who pays the piper detects the tune, so if you wanted to name this road after just anybody you should have constructed it.

“It’s not when the federal government has finished that you would find anybody, one palm wine tapper in your village and name the road after the person, so minister thank you for warning on time.”
