Former Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar (retd.), has announced his withdrawal from active politics.

Abubakar, who was the All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship candidate in Bauchi State during the 2023 elections, disclosed this in a post on his X handle on Sunday.

The former military chief said he no longer belongs to any political party and would not contest for any political office.

He, however, stated that he would continue to contribute to national development as a private citizen.

Abubakar retired from the Nigerian Air Force in 2021 and subsequently joined partisan politics.

He contested the 2023 Bauchi State governorship election on the platform of the APC but lost to Governor Bala Mohammed of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

His announcement comes amid recent speculation linking him to a possible governorship bid ahead of the 2027 elections following the circulation of campaign posters in parts of Bauchi State.
