Fund release will benefit ordinary Nigerians—Analyst reacts to FG debt payment approval

A public affairs analyst and civic society advocate, David Matthew, said the Nigerian government’s debt payment approval to over 1,245 indigenous contractors will trickle down to ordinary Nigerians.

He made this known in a statement on Tuesday.

Recall that the Nigerian government, through the Minister of Finance, led by Taiwo Oyedele, approved debt payments for contractors.

Reacting, Mathew called the development a major boost for the local economy and a demonstration of responsible economic management.

He added that the payments would have positive ripple effects across various sectors of the economy, creating jobs, supporting household incomes and accelerating the completion of critical infrastructure projects.

Mathew urged the federal government to sustain the momentum by ensuring the prompt settlement of future obligations while continuing reforms aimed at improving the ease of doing business and strengthening the productive capacity of local enterprises.

“The release of these funds is ultimately good news for ordinary Nigerians because when contractors are paid, workers receive their salaries, suppliers receive payment for services rendered, projects move forward, and economic activities expand. This intervention will undoubtedly contribute to growth, stability and renewed confidence in the economy”, he stated.
