Give El-Rufai access to medical care – MURIC tells ICPC

3 weeks ago 8

The Muslim Rights Concern, MURIC, has appealed to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, to grant the immediate past governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, access to medical care.

MURIC made the appeal in a statement signed by its Executive Director, Professor Ishaq Akintola.

The statement was made available to DAILY POST on Thursday evening.

DAILY POST gathered that the former governor has been in the custody of the commission for the past few days.

However, Akintola, in the statement, lamented that the health condition of the former governor is deteriorating.

He said the commission should understand that the continued denial of the former governor access to medical care is a violation of his rights.

He used the opportunity to call on the commission to allow him access to the medical attention he needs.

“We remind ICPC that denial of access to medical care to a detainee is a gross violation of Section 34(1)(a)(b)&(c) and Section 33(1) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, which stipulates, ‘Every individual is entitled to respect for the dignity of his person, and accordingly… (b) no person shall be held in slavery or servitude.’

“We therefore demand immediate medical attention for the former governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai. We frown upon any form of violation of his Allah-given fundamental human rights while in ICPC’s custody or elsewhere.”
