A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Zamfara state, Dr Abdullahi Shinkafi, says Governor Dauda Lawal’s decision to join the ruling party is a welcome development.

Shinkafi, who said this while addressing party supporters in Gusau on Thursday, said the governor’s defection would bring more development to the state.

DAILY POST recalls that Lawal on Monday in Gusau, through his Deputy, Malam Mani Mummuni, announced his defection from the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, to the ruling APC after a stakeholders’ consultation meeting.

According to him, the governor as the leader of the APC in the state now will address various challenges of disunity and instability in the party.

He described the governor’s decision to join the APC as a great achievement that would ensure the victory of the party in the 2027 general elections.

“You know the APC is now a big family in Zamfara; the governor must work hand in hand with all relevant stakeholders especially the former governor, Abdul’aziz Yari who invested massively in the party.

“I think the former governor built a strong political structure in the ruling party across the state, therefore, stakeholders like him shouldn’t be ignored.

“The governor must work hard to unite APC in Zamfara in order to avoid anti party activities in the 2027 general elections.

“The governor must also know that the party structure in the state is not like that of the PDP. APC now is a large family in Zamfara,” he said.

He assured of his continued support for the governor and the party, while also appealing to the state government to focus on addressing security challenges bedeviling the state.

“I think the governor must utilise this great opportunity to collaborate more with the Federal government to bring more development to the state,” he added.
