Gov Namadi appoints Mohammed Garba secretary of Jigawa Electoral Commission

Governor Malam Umar A. Namadi has approved the appointment of Abubakar Garba Mohammed as Secretary of the Jigawa State Independent Electoral Commission (JSIEC).

The appointment was announced in a statement issued by the Secretary to the Government of Jigawa State (SSG), Malam Bala Ibrahim.

According to the statement, the SSG said the appointment was based on merit, integrity, and competence, expressing confidence that the new secretary would contribute significantly to strengthening the state’s electoral process.

Abubakar Garba Mohammed was born on February 21, 1960, in Hadejia Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
He holds a Master’s degree in Banking and Finance from Bayero University, Kano, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Election Administration from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

He began his career as a classroom teacher under the Science and Technical Schools Board between 1984 and 1989 before joining the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Garba Mohammed served in various capacities at INEC from 1989 until his retirement in 2020, rising to the position of Director General of Administration and Procurement at the INEC Katsina State office.

During his career, he participated in overseeing elections across several local government areas and also served as an international election monitor during the Republic of Ghana’s general election.

The appointment takes immediate effect.
