Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has reaffirmed his commitment to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, amid circulating rumours of a possible defection to the All Progressives Congress, APC.

He made the statement shortly after Eid prayers marking the end of Ramadan, while addressing journalists on the political landscape in the state and within his party.

The governor dismissed claims suggesting he had plans to leave the PDP, describing such reports as baseless and unfounded.

He emphasized that his political decisions would always be guided by the interests and wishes of the people of Bauchi State.

“Leadership must reflect the collective will of the citizens, not personal ambition or pressure from political groups,” he said.

Acknowledging ongoing challenges within the PDP, Bala Mohammed expressed confidence that these issues are temporary and can be resolved through dialogue and strategic planning by party leaders ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“We are where we are today. Politics is dynamic, but we must be strategic to benefit our supporters and party members,” he added.

The governor stressed that politics should be driven by vision, integrity, and service, rather than a desperate quest for power.

He noted that the people of Bauchi are politically aware and cannot easily be swayed by rumours or propaganda.

He also urged politicians to avoid divisive practices that could inflame tensions but focus on unity, peaceful engagement, and healthy competition as preparations for future elections continue.

“This is a state with a rich democratic tradition. We must avoid politics of hostility. Power comes from God, and the people will always decide,” Bala Mohammed said.

Highlighting his administration’s approach to governance, he reaffirmed his commitment to transparency, accountability, and inclusive leadership.

He assured that opposition voices are free to operate without intimidation, and that his government will continue to support emerging leaders and provide platforms for youth participation in politics.

On issues of security and development, the governor acknowledged existing challenges but affirmed that his administration is committed to addressing them through prudent resource management and sustained development efforts.

He called on residents to support security agencies and remain vigilant, noting that peace and stability are essential for the state’s progress.
