The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced June 20, 2026, as the date for the conduct of the bye-election for the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency seat in Kano State, following the death of the lawmaker, Muhammad Danjuma, who represented the constituency in April 2026.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Abdu Zango, disclosed this while briefing journalists in Kano on Wednesday.

According to him, a total of 143,675 registered voters have collected their Permanent Voter Cards in Warawa Local Government Area, while 162,445 voters have registered and collected their voter cards across 15 wards in Dawakin Kudu Local Government Area.

Zango said the commission would work closely with security agencies, particularly the police, to ensure adequate security during the election, due to emerging security concerns in parts of the constituency.

“We are engaging security agencies to guarantee peaceful and credible conduct of the election across the affected areas,” he said.

The INEC official also stated that Kano remains the state with the highest number of completed voter registrations in the country.
