Interfaith dialogue only path to addressing Nigeria’s insecurity – Tinubu

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has said dialogue among religious groups remains the best way to address insecurity and strengthen peaceful coexistence in Nigeria.
The President stated this on Saturday in Abuja while receiving Archbishop Paul R. Gallagher, the Vatican’s Secretary for Relations with States and International Organisations of the Holy See, at his residence.

Tinubu said his administration would continue to work with religious leaders to promote peace, harmony and tolerance across the country.

“Interfaith dialogue is the only path to addressing the country’s security challenges,” the President said.

He urged Christian and Muslim leaders to continue preaching peace, saying Nigeria could never have an excess of peace and tolerance.

“My administration will continue to work on religious harmony among all faiths. Our bishops and religious leaders have been doing a great deal. Please tell them to continue the good work they are doing. Let them continue to preach peace and tolerance. We cannot have an excess of that,” he said.

Speaking on security, the President said the military had made significant progress against criminal groups.

He added that his administration was investing more resources in surveillance and security operations, especially in previously ungoverned areas.

He also said the government was investing in young people to reduce their vulnerability to recruitment by terrorist groups.
