Italy’s Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, has strongly condemned a deadly missile attack on a school in Iran, describing it as a massacre and calling for those responsible to be identified.

Speaking before the Italian Senate on Wednesday, Meloni said the Italian government was saddened by the deaths of young girls at a school in Minab, a city in southern Iran.

“On behalf of the government, I express my firm condemnation of the massacre of girls at the school in Minab,” she said.

The prime minister also expressed sympathy for the families of the victims, describing them as very young.

She added that it was important for the truth about the incident to emerge quickly.

“I want responsibility for this tragedy to be swiftly ascertained,” Meloni told lawmakers.

Iran has blamed the attack on the United States and Israel, accusing both countries of carrying out the missile strike in the early hours of the ongoing Middle East conflict.

However, the accusations have been strongly disputed. Israel has denied any involvement in the attack, while US President Donald Trump said Washington was still investigating what happened.

Trump said on Monday that American authorities were looking into the incident. “We are investigating the strike right now,” he said.

According to Iranian state media, at least 165 people were killed in the attack on the school. Many of the victims were said to be students.
