Kano Christians join CAN’s Black Sunday prayers for kidnap victims

Christian worshippers across Kano State on Sunday joined the nationwide “Black Sunday” prayer session organised by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), calling on the Federal Government to intensify efforts to secure the release of kidnapped victims and address the country’s security challenges.

The special prayer sessions were held in churches across the state, where clergy and congregants prayed for victims held by kidnappers and other criminal groups while seeking divine intervention for peace and security in Nigeria.

Speaking during one of the services, Rev. Dr Armstrong Ajayi expressed concern over the continued cases of kidnapping, killings and violent attacks across the country, describing the situation as a serious national problem requiring urgent action.

He urged political leaders to avoid turning security matters into political debates, stressing that safeguarding lives and property should remain a top priority for governments at all levels.

“Insecurity is not a political matter but a national emergency that demands collective action from government, security agencies, religious leaders and citizens,” Ajayi said.

Worshippers also appealed to the authorities to intensify efforts to rescue those still in captivity and restore peace to communities affected by violence.

They expressed optimism that ongoing security operations would lead to the safe return of kidnapped victims and provide relief to families living in fear and uncertainty.

The Black Sunday observance is part of CAN’s nationwide campaign aimed at drawing attention to the plight of kidnap victims while mobilising prayers for lasting peace, national unity and improved security across Nigeria.
