The Kano State police command has arrested four suspects and recovered four stolen vehicles in separate operations aimed at tackling car theft in the state.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said the arrests and recoveries followed intelligence-led operations carried out by the command’s Anti-Car Theft Unit.

According to him, the breakthrough reflects the command’s efforts to strengthen investigations and improve security in line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu.

“The success is part of our continued commitment to intelligence-led and technology-driven operations aimed at combating crime in Kano State,” the statement said.

Kiyawa added that the operations were also in line with the strategy of the Commissioner of Police in the state, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, to strengthen security and protect residents.

The police said the first arrest was made on March 7, 2026, when operatives intercepted a dark blue Hyundai Elantra at the Naibawa Flyover Bridge in Kano.

Two suspects identified as Ibrahim Muhd, 29, from Minna in Niger State, and Ahmed Sani, 32, from Abuja, were arrested while driving the vehicle.

Investigations later revealed that the car had been reported stolen in Abuja.

“The suspects were arrested while driving the vehicle, and they later confessed that the car was stolen,” the statement said.

In another operation on March 9, the Anti-Car Theft Unit arrested Abdulkarim Mamman, 30, of Malali Quarters in Kaduna State.

He was found with a Honda Civic car at Kwanar Dawaki along the Kano–Zaria Expressway.

Police said the suspect admitted stealing the vehicle from Karkasara Quarters in Kano.

The command also arrested another suspect, Yusuf Ali, 28, from Kaduna State, in connection with a silver Toyota Corolla that had earlier been stolen from Dutse in Jigawa State.

In addition, officers recovered a white Nissan Sunny believed to have been stolen from a parking lot within Kano metropolis.

Police said all the suspects are currently in custody while investigations continue.

“They are undergoing further investigation, and once the process is completed, they will be charged to court,” the statement added.

The police command also appreciated residents for their support and cooperation in providing useful information that helps security agencies in their work.

“The command appreciates the continued support of members of the public and encourages citizens to report suspicious activities to the nearest police station,” Kiyawa said.

He reaffirmed the commitment of the police to intensify efforts to combat crime and ensure the safety of residents across Kano State.
