The Kano State Police Command has arrested six suspects and recovered three tricycles and five motorcycles allegedly stolen in different parts of the state.
The operation, carried out by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), is part of ongoing efforts to tackle theft and other criminal activities in Kano.
Police spokesman SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa confirmed the arrests in a statement issued on Monday, October 20, 2025, saying the operation demonstrated the Command’s “unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety and security of residents.”
According to the statement, two suspects, Nura Ibrahim (44) from Zaria, Kaduna State, and Sunusi Bala (22) from Gusau, Zamfara State, were arrested on October 14, 2025, after allegedly attempting to steal a tricycle along Airport Road, Kano.
The suspects were caught by an angry mob and later rescued by police officers. “They were rushed to Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital for treatment,” Kiyawa said.
Investigations revealed the suspects had hired a tricycle rider, gave him an intoxicating substance, and tried to make away with the tricycle. Their arrest also led to the recovery of two additional stolen tricycles in Katsina State and the arrest of two accomplices — Bashir Muhd (46) and Sunusi Musa (48).
In another operation, police arrested Umar Isah (34) in Na’ibawa Quarters, Kano, on October 10, 2025. Three stolen motorcycles were found in his possession. He reportedly confessed to receiving and selling stolen bikes.
Similarly, on October 15, 2025, the police arrested Idris Isyaku (28) at Na’ibawa Flyover following a tip-off from a resident about suspicious movements. Two suspected stolen motorcycles were recovered from him.
Items recovered from the suspects include three tricycles and five motorcycles of different brands and colors, some with registration numbers and others without. The Command urged anyone who recognizes any of the recovered items to contact the Investigating Police Officer via 07010161372 or visit the Public Relations Office with proof of ownership.
Commissioner of Police CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori called on Kano residents to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activity.
“The Command remains steadfast in its resolve to protect lives and property across the state,” he said.
