Kebbi govt sets up panel to probe death of two children at Zuru hospital

The Kebbi State Government has constituted a special committee to investigate the death of two children at General Hospital, Zuru.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday by Yahaya Sarki, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Kebbi State Governor.

Governor Nasir Idris approved the committee to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident involving the two children, who were reportedly from the same family.

According to the statement, the committee is chaired by the Commissioner for Information, Yakubu Ahmed, with the Commissioners for Health and Establishment, Sama’ila Augie and Manu Dogondaji, serving as members.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Zaki Abubakar Zaki, will serve as secretary.

The panel is expected to investigate the immediate and remote causes of the deaths, including allegations that the children may have been administered a wrongful injection.

It will also identify individuals connected to the incident, determine responsibility where necessary, and recommend measures to prevent a recurrence.

The committee has been given one week to submit its report and has been directed to commence work immediately.
