European Union foreign policy chief, Kaja Kallas has described the death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was a defining moment in Iran’s history.

In a post on X on Sunday, Kallas said that despite uncertainty, there is now an open ‌path to a different Iran following Khamenei’s death.

“The death of Ali Khamenei is a defining moment in Iran’s history,” Kallas wrote.

“What comes next is uncertain. But there is now an open path to a different Iran, one that its people may have greater freedom to shape.

“I am in contact with partners, including those in the region that bear the brunt of Iran’s military actions, to find practical steps for de-escalation.”

Recall that Khamenei was killed on Saturday in Israeli and US air strikes, Iranian state media announced.
