Kwankwaso dumps NNPP, may join APC

Former governor of Kano State and 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has resigned his membership of the party.

Kwankwaso who announced his decision in a statement, said he felt the need for “strategic realignment” in response to the evolving political landscape in the country.

“I wish to formally announce my resignation from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) with immediate effect,” he said.

“As a committed and bonafide member of the party, this was not an easy decision to make,” he stated.

Explaining the rationale behind his exit, Kwankwaso said he intends to align with another political platform that he believes offers a better opportunity to drive national change.

The former governor who described the decision as difficult, dis not however name the new party he is moving to.

“Considering the current trajectory of the nation’s political landscape, which calls for strategic realignment, I have found it necessary to identify with another political platform that offers the best opportunity to effectively change the nation,” he added.

He expressed appreciation to the leadership and members of the party for their support during his time in the NNPP.

“I extend my deepest appreciation to the National Chairman, Ajuji Ahmed and the entire National Working Committee for their steadfast support throughout my time,” Kwankwaso said.

He also thanked other organs of the party, including the Board of Trustees, National Executive Committee, and members at all levels, as well as supporters of the Kwankwasiyya Movement.

“I also thank… all levels of leadership across the party — from the ward to the state level… and all followers of the Kwankwasiyya Movement for their dedication and commitment to our shared mission,” he said.

“We shall continue to collaborate and work together towards charting a better and more prosperous future for our dear nation,” he added.

There have been speculations that Kwankwaso may be moving to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) amid realignments in the state’s politics.

This speculation is further pronounced by his recent meeting with President Bola Tinubu, and the defection of the state governor, who was also a former member of NNPC to the APC
