Fresh cracks have emerged within the Labour Party as the leadership of the party has cautioned aspirants and supporters against purchasing nomination forms from former National Chairman Julius Abure, insisting that such documents have no legitimacy.

The warning was issued on Sunday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ken Asogwa, amid renewed tensions over the party’s leadership crisis ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a strongly worded statement, the party accused Abure of attempting to mislead unsuspecting aspirants by allegedly distributing unauthorised nomination forms in Abia State.

The party said it was forced to react after photographs surfaced online allegedly showing Abure presenting nomination forms to certain individuals.

According to the statement, only the leadership headed by Nenadi Usman has the authority to issue legitimate nomination forms for the forthcoming elections.

“Let it be stated clearly and unequivocally that Nenadi Usman is the National Chairman of the Labour Party, and all legitimate nomination forms for every elective position ahead of the 2027 general elections can only be obtained through the official National Secretariat of the party located in Utako, Abuja,” the statement read.

The party warned aspirants not to fall victim to what it described as political deception, insisting that any form obtained outside the recognised party structure would be invalid.

“Consequently, any so-called Labour Party nomination form obtained from Julius Abure or any other unauthorised source is nothing but worthless paper being peddled by political fraudsters seeking to deceive unsuspecting persons,” Asogwa stated.

The Labour Party leadership also questioned why the alleged distribution of forms was concentrated in Abia State, a development it suggested may be politically motivated.

The statement further declared that Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, would not yield to pressure or political intimidation.

The party accused Abure of continuing to parade himself as national chairman despite court decisions and electoral recognition favouring the caretaker leadership led by Nenadi Usman.

According to the statement, Abure’s continued actions amount to criminal impersonation.

“Julius Abure’s continued impersonation of the office of the National Chairman of the Labour Party remains a criminal offence of serious legal consequence that has reached an intolerable height,” the statement added.

Attempts to get Abure’s reaction to the allegations were unsuccessful, as his phone line could not be reached at the time of filing the report.

The latest controversy is the newest chapter in the prolonged leadership battle that has sharply divided the Labour Party in recent months.

The crisis intensified after the Court of Appeal reportedly upheld Nenadi Usman’s leadership of the party, a judgment Abure rejected.

Abure has consistently maintained that disputes relating to party leadership are internal affairs beyond the jurisdiction of the courts, arguing that the ruling contradicts existing legal precedents.

Despite his objections, the appellate court’s decision reportedly affirmed an earlier judgment of the Federal High Court recognising the Usman-led caretaker committee as the legitimate leadership of the party.

The dispute took a more decisive turn after the Independent National Electoral Commission officially recognised the Nenadi Usman-led National Caretaker Committee in compliance with the Federal High Court ruling.

Political observers believe the renewed exchange signals that the Labour Party’s internal crisis remains far from resolved as the race toward the 2027 general elections gathers momentum.
