Lagos-Ibadan Expressway: FRSC announces temporary diversion as gantry installation begins

Motorists travelling along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway have been advised to prepare for temporary traffic adjustments as authorities commence the installation of safety warning gantries on bridges along the busy highway corridor.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun State Sector Command, disclosed that the diversion is part of ongoing infrastructure improvement works being carried out by the Federal Ministry of Works in collaboration with Buildwell Construction Company.

The traffic advisory, signed by Superintendent Route Commander Afolabi Odunsi and released on Wednesday, stated that the exercise would primarily affect vehicles heading towards Ibadan along the Magboro-Ibafo axis of the expressway.

According to the FRSC, construction activities have already begun at the first bridge situated near Mountain Top University at Kilometer 13, before Ibafo, with the most intensive phase of the installation scheduled for Thursday, June 25, 2026.

The statement read, “The Federal Ministry of Works, through Buildwell Construction Company, is undertaking the installation of warning gantries in front of bridges along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

“The installation process at the first bridge located in front of Mountain Top University (KM 13), before Ibafo, has commenced and is expected to reach its peak on Thursday, 25 June 2026.”

To ensure the safety of road users and construction personnel during the operation, the corps said a temporary diversion plan has been put in place for light and medium-sized vehicles travelling towards Ibadan.

Under the arrangement, motorists driving cars, buses, pickup vans and mini trucks will be redirected through alternative routes before reconnecting with the expressway.

“Cars, buses, pickup vans and mini trucks will be diverted through the Magboro Under-Bridge to Ibafo and subsequently rejoined to the expressway at the NASFAT U-turn,” the statement noted.

The FRSC further explained that articulated vehicles would be temporarily restricted from passing through the affected section while the installation work is ongoing. The diversion exercise is expected to last for approximately one hour.

Road users were urged to remain patient and comply with traffic control measures introduced for the duration of the operation.

“Motorists are advised to exercise patience, obey all traffic regulations, and strictly follow the directions of FRSC personnel and other traffic management officials deployed to the area,” the statement said.

While apologising for any inconvenience the diversion may cause, the corps stressed that the temporary measure is necessary to facilitate critical safety improvements and enhance infrastructure along one of Nigeria’s busiest transport corridors.
