In response to growing security concerns across Ikorodu and neighbouring communities, the Lagos State Police Command has introduced a new tactical intervention unit named the “Command Sweepers Squad” to strengthen anti-crime operations in the area.

The initiative, approved by the Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, comes amid increasing complaints from residents over criminal activities and insecurity within parts of the Ikorodu axis.

Details of the operation were contained in a statement released on Monday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent of Police Abimbola Adebisi.

According to the statement, the newly created outfit is designed as a temporary security intervention mechanism aimed at restoring public confidence and improving safety across affected communities.

The command disclosed that the squad is made up of operatives drawn from several tactical formations within the police force, including the Rapid Response Squad, Eko Strike Force, Police Mobile Force units, alongside personnel from sister security agencies and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force.

To ensure faster response time and operational coverage, the unit has been stationed in Ijede, from where officers are expected to coordinate security operations across Ikorodu and adjoining locations.

The police also confirmed that the squad has been equipped with patrol vehicles and three Armoured Personnel Carriers provided by the Lagos State Security Trust Fund to boost operational effectiveness.

“The Squad has been strategically deployed to identify black spots and criminal hideouts to carry out intelligence-led operations, raids, stop-and-search duties, and confidence-building patrols aimed at flushing out criminal elements,” the statement said.

The command assured residents that the operations would be conducted within the framework of the law and urged members of the public to cooperate with security agencies by supplying useful and timely information that could assist ongoing efforts to tackle crime in the area.
