Lagos warns motorists against damaging vehicle number plates

2 hours ago 1

The Lagos State Number Plate Production Authority, LSNPPA, has urged vehicle owners to handle their number plates with care, stressing their importance for identification and road safety.

The advice was given by the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of LSNPPA, Mr Olayanju Cole, during a meeting with the management of the Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency, LASCOPA, led by its General Manager/CEO, Mr Afolabi Solebo.

Cole described number plates as a critical means of identifying vehicles, warning motorists against practices that could render them damaged or illegible.

“Your number plate is your identity on the road,” he said.

The discussion centred on the growing issue of faded and damaged plates, with the LSNPPA boss emphasising the need for motorists to promptly replace worn-out or defective plates with duly standardised versions issued by the Lagos State Government.

He also cautioned vehicle owners against using harsh chemicals and abrasive substances when cleaning their plates, noting that materials such as aromatic solvents, alcohol-based spirits, acetone, petrol, brake oil, kerosene and rough cleaning tools could damage the surface and affect readability.

On its part, LASCOPA reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the rights of motorists and promoting better service delivery across the state, assuring residents of continued collaboration with relevant agencies to address consumer-related concerns.
