Former Manchester United striker, Michael Owen, has urged manager Michael Carrick to sign West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes to replace Casemiro in central midfield.
Recall that Casemiro has already left Man United following the conclusion of the 2025/26 season.
However, Owen believes Fernandes is a very good player, who would do a good job at the Red Devils.
Man United has been linked with Fernandes, who joined West Ham from Southampton last summer.
“Casemiro’s shoes are big shoes to fill aren’t they?” Owen told Metro.
“And you know lots of people were writing them off but he had an incredible last two-thirds of the season and big shoes to fill.
“Personally if I was Michael Carrick, if I was Manchester United, I’d be getting Fernandes from West Ham. I think he’s very good. I think he’s exactly what they need.”
