Marc Cucurella jas broken silence on his decision to leave Chelsea Football Club ahead of the 2026/27 season as he moves to Spain to join Real Madrid.
The defender says his decision to leave Chelsea for Real Madrid was driven by the opportunity to join one of the world's biggest clubs and fulfil a lifelong ambition Speaking after completing his move, the Spanish left-back explained that he "had no doubts" about accepting Real Madrid's offer.
He described the move as a dream come true and said the chance to represent a club with Madrid's history, winning culture, and constant pursuit of major trophies was impossible to turn down.
Cucurella also revealed that the opportunity to work under returning manager José Mourinho played a significant role in his decision.
He said Mourinho personally expressed his eagerness to work with him, giving him confidence that he would be an important part of the project.
He said,
"I was happy at Chelsea. But in life sometimes you need to change and you start new chapters that you don't expect. For me and my family it was an opportunity we couldn’t refuse, and I’m very happy with the decision we made.When you’re a kid, you dream of playing for big teams, and I think Real Madrid is one of them”.
He continued,
“I want to win the Champions League at Real Madrid. They have the most UCLs, I want to be part of it”.
While thanking Chelsea for his time in London, Cucurella stressed that his departure was about taking the next step in his career rather than dissatisfaction with the club.
