Mediators intensify diplomatic push to ease US-Iran tensions amid fragile truce

Regional mediators have stepped up efforts to prevent a renewed escalation between the United States and Iran, with Qatari officials holding high-level talks in Tehran aimed at preserving the fragile understanding between the two countries.

According to a source familiar with the discussions, Qatari negotiators are meeting with Iranian officials in coordination with Washington to explore ways of reducing tensions and creating conditions for broader diplomatic negotiations to resume.

The talks are reportedly focused on implementing the existing US-Iran memorandum of understanding and resolving key disputes that triggered the recent flare-up, including disagreements over maritime navigation and security in the Strait of Hormuz.

Separate reports by Axios and The New York Times indicate that officials from several mediating nations have been in frequent contact with both US and Iranian representatives in recent days, seeking to prevent the crisis from spiraling into a wider regional conflict.

The diplomatic initiative is said to involve Qatar, Pakistan, Turkey, Egypt and Saudi Arabia, all of which have been working behind the scenes to bridge differences as Washington and Tehran continue to accuse each other of violating the terms of their agreement.

Although military hostilities have eased somewhat since the latest exchange of attacks, diplomats remain concerned that the situation remains highly volatile, with ongoing mediation efforts viewed as critical to preventing another round of confrontation.
