Meta Platforms Inc. is reassigning around 7,000 employees into artificial intelligence-focused roles as part of a sweeping internal restructuring aimed at accelerating the company’s AI ambitions.

According to an internal memo, the reorganization will affect workers across several departments and comes ahead of another round of planned staff reductions expected later this week.

In the memo sent Monday, Meta Chief People Officer Janelle Gale said affected employees would transition into newly created groups focused on AI-related products, including AI agents, generative AI tools, and intelligent applications. The restructuring is designed to simplify operations and create what Gale described as a “flatter” corporate structure with smaller, more agile teams.

The latest move underscores Meta’s aggressive push into artificial intelligence as competition intensifies among major tech companies including OpenAI, Google, Microsoft, and Apple. CEO Mark Zuckerberg has repeatedly described AI as the company’s top strategic priority, with Meta investing heavily in infrastructure, large language models, smart assistants, and AI-powered consumer products across Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.

The company has already undergone multiple rounds of layoffs over the past two years as it sought to reduce costs and streamline operations following heavy spending on the metaverse and declining advertising growth. While Meta has since returned to strong revenue growth, the company continues to reshape its workforce around AI development and automation initiatives.
