Mikel slams Chelsea’s Adarabioyo over costly error in Sunderland defeat

Former Nigeria international John Obi Mikel has criticised Chelsea defender Tosin Adarabioyo over his performance in their recent 2-1 defeat to Sunderland.

Alejandro Garnacho put Chelsea in front just four minutes into the game, but Sunderland fought back through Wilson Isidor and sealed victory with a late goal from Chemsdine Talbi.

Obi Mikel questioned what Adarabioyo was thinking while defending the pass that led to Talbi’s decisive winner for Sunderland.

“The defending was poor. Listen, I don’t like pointing fingers,” Mikel said on the Obi One Podcast.
“Tosin, what are you doing?! Five or six seconds, he controlled the ball, the striker, and you’re standing behind him.
“Yes, Tosin, yes. [Trevoh] Chalobah as well, yes. Was Chalobah looking at the man who was arriving late to the box, was he trying to calculate where the man is coming?”

Mikel, who played as a defensive midfielder, was part of Chelsea’s team that won two Premier League titles, the Champions League, the FA Cup, and several other trophies during his playing career.
