The Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, has elected Mr Duba Ishaya-Dodo as its candidate for the June 20 Nasarawa North senatorial bye-election.
The Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Mr Solomon Ndam, announced Ishaya-Dodo’s emergence during the party’s primary in Akwanga LGA on Tuesday.
Ndam urged stakeholders and party members to work tirelessly for Ishaya-Dodo’s victory on June 20, 2026.
The News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, reports that the exercise drew 833 delegates, all of whom affirmed Ishaya-Dodo’s candidacy for the senatorial bye-election.
“Today, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) is conducting its primary to produce its candidate for the Nasarawa North Senatorial bye-election slated for June 20, 2026.
“By the power vested in me as the Returning Officer for the Nasarawa North 2026 bye-election, I hereby declare Hon. Duba Ishaya Dodo winner after he scored 833 votes.
“He is hereby returned elected as the candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress for the Nasarawa North Senatorial bye-election,” the returning officer said.
He also called for unity and teamwork among stakeholders and members to ensure Ishaya-Dodo’s victory.
Also speaking, former Deputy Speaker of the State Assembly, Mr Tsentse Dandaura-Tsentse, NDC House of Representatives aspirant for Akwanga/Nasarawa Eggon/Wamba Federal Constituency, Mr Albert Oveysha-Bashayi, NDC State Secretary Mr Simon Namami, State Women Leader, Mrs Yamusa Ladi, and party chieftains Mr Nde Jonathan, Mr Sunday Andrew, and Mr Jerry Auta urged members to mobilise support for Ishaya-Dodo.
They encouraged voters to choose the NDC for the progress and development of the zone, the state, and the country at large.
They also urged the electorate to turn out en masse, vote for Ishaya-Dodo and protect their votes during the June 20 bye-election.
In his acceptance speech, Ishaya-Dodo, the NDC senatorial candidate for Nasarawa North, thanked stakeholders and delegates for electing him as the party’s flagbearer.
“I am happy that the party considers me capable enough to be its flagbearer for the Nasarawa North bye-election.
“I will ensure the development of Nasarawa North if elected senator on June 20. I will ensure women, youths, and other people empowerment in Nasarawa North if elected,” he promised.
Ishaya-Dodo assured members of Nasarawa North that he has what it takes to win the election.
“I have all it takes, and by God’s grace, I will not disappoint the people of Nasarawa North if elected. I will also lobby for projects to drive development in the zone.
“I will ensure effective, quality, and sound representation at the National Assembly,” he assured.
The NDC senatorial candidate solicited the support of all and sundry to win the election.
