The 2023 Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has described the new year as an opportunity for genuine new beginning.
Obi said this in a post on his verified X handle on Thursday in his New Year message to Nigerians.
The former Anambra State governor called on Nigerians to embrace unity, truth, sacrifice, and national renewal, urging for reflection and renewed commitment to democracy.
“May this be the year we take our democracy seriously, not just as a ritual of elections, but as a daily commitment to unity, justice, accountability, compassion, and the rule of law.
“Let it signal the start of a true rebirth for Nigeria, a year when we gather the courage to confront our shortcomings honestly and begin to build a broad national consensus based on integrity, fairness, and shared sacrifice.” he said.
The Anambra-born politician stressed the importance of honesty in leadership, urging those in public office to rediscover the sacred duty of truth-telling—about their backgrounds, intentions, policies, actions, and even their health.
According to him, public trust is rooted in transparency and integrity, and that leadership should be viewed as a call to service rather than a platform for personal gain.
