Rice and cassava processors under the Federal Government’s IFAD/Value Chain Development Programme, VCDP, in Niger State have reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing the packaging of their products to meet international standards and boost sales across the state.
They made this pledge during a training session on rice and cassava destoning and packaging techniques, held in Bida for processors from Bida, Lavun, and Mokwa local government areas. According to the participants, the training has equipped them with the skills to improve the quality and marketability of their rice and cassava products, not only within Niger State but across the nation.
“This initiative will drive growth and improvement in the processors’ businesses, making our products more appealing to buyers and ultimately increasing sales,” the participants maintained.
In an interview, Mrs Amina Adamu and Hauwa Mohammed, both rice and cassava processors, expressed appreciation for the valuable insights gained, stating, “We have learned a lot from this training on how to properly package, use the weighing scale for our products, which will help attract buyers and increase our sales.”
Mal. Shaibu Isah, a cassava processor, also expressed readiness to cascade the training to members of their communities, aiming to spread the benefits and elevate local production standards.
Earlier in her remarks, Mrs Joy Teni Kolo, Assistant Agro Process/Quality Enhancement Officer with the programme, explained the rationale behind the training.
“We trained them on the importance of proper packaging, how to use standard materials, and branding techniques to make their products identifiable and competitive.
“Our goal is to position their products, especially cassava, which has over 20 finished products, among the best in the market.

“By focusing on quality enhancement and proper packaging, the VCDP aims to strengthen the value chain for rice and cassava in Niger State, benefiting both producers and consumers,” she said.
