‎1. The US under President Donald Trump’s administration has redesignated Nigeria as a “country of particular concern” over allegations of genocide against Christians. In a post on social Media, on Friday, Trump said Christianity was facing an existential threat in Nigeria.

2. The Peoples Democratic Party has vowed to carry on with its plans for the November 15 and 16 elective National Convention slated for Ibadan, Oyo State. This is despite an order by the Federal High Court in Abuja, stopping the party from going ahead with the convention for allegedly breaching its rule.

3. The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has flagged a total of 2,658 admissions conducted during the 2024/2025 academic session as illegal. The illegal admissions were flagged from a total of 17 universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education, according to a breakdown of institutional analysis conducted by the board, which was obtained by our correspondent on Friday in Abuja.

4. Some kidnappers have abducted a consultant neurosurgeon, identified simply as Dr Mbanugo T., in Uruagu Nnewi in Nnewi North Local Government, Anambra State. The doctor was said to have been kidnapped along the New Nnewi-Oba road in the late hours of Thursday.

5. The Kogi Polytechnic said it has commenced an investigation into a syndicate of nine suspects for alleged certificate racketeering and document falsification. The Rector of the Kogi Polytechnic, Prof Salisu Ogbo, stated this while addressing a news conference on Friday in Lokoja.

6. No fewer than 23 foreign nationals held hostage by a kidnapping and human trafficking syndicate in Nasarawa State have been rescued by the police. It was gathered that the victims, comprising 14 males, eight females, and a child, were rescued unhurt around 8 p.m. on October 22 at Angwan Adamu Ruga Fulani Zone B, Riverside, Ado, Mararaba area of the state.

7. Two brothers have been confirmed killed in a violent clash in the Umuchigbo-Nike community, Enugu East Local Government Area of Enugu State, with several houses and cars burnt. Confirming the incident, the Enugu State Police Command said that 27 suspects have been arrested in connection with the crisis.

8. The African Democratic Congress on Friday urged President Bola Tinubu to withdraw the 15 per cent import duty on petrol and diesel, describing the decision as insensitive and capable of worsening the economic hardship faced by Nigerians. In a statement by its spokesperson, Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC said the Tinubu administration’s approach to economic reform had remained insensitive to the suffering of ordinary Nigerians.

9. The All Progressives Congress on Friday expressed confidence that it would win the November 8 governorship election in Anambra State to produce the 26th governor from the party nationwide. The National Chairman of the APC, Nentawe Yilwatda, stated this at a national campaign rally for the party’s governorship candidate, Nicholas Ukachukwu, and his running mate, Senator Uche Ekwunife, in Onitsha.

10. The Naira on Friday appreciated to N1,475 per dollar in the parallel market from N1,489 per dollar on Thursday. However, the naira appreciated to N1,427.5 per dollar in the Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market (NFEM).
