The Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) has disclosed that its newly established Financial Investigation and Fraud Analysis Unit (FIFAU) has reviewed over 500 asset declaration forms as part of ongoing efforts to enhance transparency and accountability in the public sector.
This was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Bureau’s Director of Special Duties, Moses Atolagbe, detailing the achievements of CCB Chairman, Prof. Abdullahi Bello, after one year in office.
According to the statement, the investigation, the first major initiative undertaken by FIFAU, uncovered several discrepancies in asset declarations that are expected to support enforcement actions against defaulting public officers. “The asset declaration forms of at least nine ministers, 43 permanent secretaries, and 40 federal directors have been verified, ensuring high-level accountability across key government roles,” the Bureau stated.
Bello noted that the verification exercise remains ongoing, with the goal of establishing a sustainable system for monitoring compliance among public servants.
Highlighting reforms under his leadership, Bello said the Bureau had launched a digitised asset declaration system that enables public officials to access and submit the CCB Form online. This is a move that has saved millions of naira previously spent on printing manual forms.
He added that 199 CCB personnel have received specialised training in investigation, verification, forensic analysis, and ethical governance to strengthen institutional capacity. The Bureau has also established zonal offices, each headed by a Director, to oversee intelligence gathering, investigations, prosecutions, and state-level operations for improved enforcement.
To bolster its anti-corruption mandate, the CCB has entered into partnerships with key national and international agencies, including the EFCC, ICPC, DSS, NFIU, and various foreign embassies. The Bureau has also represented Nigeria at global forums such as the Cambridge Economic Crime Forum and the U.S. IVLO 2025 conference, while gaining membership in the Association of Commonwealth Heads of Anti-Corruption Agencies in Africa.
Bello emphasised that his leadership philosophy is guided by the Bureau’s renewed slogan, “Declare or Forfeit,” which underscores the obligation of all public officers to declare their assets, uphold transparency, and resist corruption.
Appointed by President Bola Tinubu on October 23, 2024, Bello pledged upon assumption of office to reform the Bureau’s operations, reinforce institutional integrity, and strengthen Nigeria’s anti-corruption framework.
