The tactics of Manchester United's head coach Ruben Amorim have been criticised by supporters of the club in the past few weeks due to the poor run of form in recent times.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe visited Carrington after the disappointing result against Manchester City at the Etihad on Sunday, September 14, 2025. The Portugal international was asked about what was discussed and if there is a possibility of a change in his formation.
Ruben Amorim while speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of the game against Chelsea was asked about his tactics and if he would be changing it anytime soon. According to him, not even the Pope could persuade him to change his controversial formation.
He responded jokingly,
"He was offering me a new contract,"No, no, no," he said. "No one. Not even the Pope will change. This is my job. This is my responsibility. This is my life. So, I will not change that. If I'm a player and I have a coach that, with a lot of pressure and [people] all around the world, are saying 'you need to change the system says 'I'm going to change', they will look at me in a different way. Everything is important when you think about the impact that a decision is going to have on the team. I am doing things my way. I hope to have the time to change but it will be an evolution."
Manchester United supporters will hope that the tactics will end up to favour of the club as they continue their quest to finish in a better place on the league table this season.
