The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested seven suspects for illegal blasting activities in Ondo State.
The NSCDC Public Relations Officer in the state, Daniel Aidamenbor, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday in Akure.
Aidamenbor said the suspects were arrested by operatives attached to the command’s mines and steel unit in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Mines headed by Mr. Mayowa Omosebi.
He said: “The suspects, all residents of Akure but indigenes of different states, were arrested on Thursday, 21 May at Agbogbo Area along Ilesa–Akure–Owo Expressway, Akure.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects, all male, were engaged in illegal blasting operations using explosives without the necessary authorisation and permits, contrary to the relevant mining and explosives laws.
