Former United States, US, President Barack Obama has condemned the decision by the administration of Donald Trump to revoke the federal endangerment finding, a cornerstone of the country’s climate policy.
The endangerment finding has long provided the legal backbone for restrictions on vehicle exhaust emissions and pollution controls for power plants.
In a post on X, Obama warned that eliminating the measure would erode protections designed to safeguard both the environment and public health.
He said the rollback would leave Americans “less safe” and “less healthy,” while weakening the nation’s capacity to address climate change.
He further argued that dismantling the rule largely serves the interests of fossil fuel companies by loosening regulatory limits.
The Trump administration, however, has maintained that scaling back environmental regulations is aimed at cutting red tape and strengthening domestic energy production.
“Today, the Trump administration repealed the endangerment finding: the ruling that served as the basis for limits on tailpipe emissions and power plant rules.
“Without it, we’ll be less safe, less healthy and less able to fight climate change — all so the fossil fuel industry can make even more money,” he wrote.
