Following a review of the security situation in the state, the Oyo State chapter of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) has suspended its indefinite strike action.
DAILY POST recalls that the teachers embarked on the strike following the recent abduction of schoolchildren in Ogbomoso in Orire Local Government Area of the state. The teachers had cited the need for improved security measures in schools across the state.
However, in a statement jointly signed by the state NUT chairman and secretary respectively, Hassan Fatai and Olukayode Salami, the union said the decision to suspend the strike followed consultations and appeals by the Oyo State Government and other stakeholders.
The union added that it reviewed the prevailing security situation before deciding to call off the industrial action, paving the way for teachers to return to classrooms.
