Residents of Kano metropolis were thrown into panic on Tuesday afternoon when a Fulani herdsman was seen openly carrying an AK-47 rifle while herding his cattle along a busy road in the state, accompanied by a police escort team in a vehicle.

In a video footage shared online, a narrator who spoke in Hausa claimed the incident was recorded in the Dawanau area of Kano city.

In the clip, the herdsman is seen with a gun strapped to his body as he guided his flock through the street in broad daylight.

“Kano has also begun to receive visitors; this is the scene we are seeing in Dawanau area,” the narrator said, drawing attention to the unusual sight.

The video has since sparked reactions on social media with many users expressing concern over public safety and questioning how an armed individual could move freely in a densely populated area without intervention especially given ongoing security challenges across parts of the country with a police escort team leading the way.

Others reasoned that the flock could belong to a powerful politician with connections in higher places hence the brazen act and the police protection.
