The Kano State faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has consolidated its grip on the party, following the election of a new 39-member executive committee to run its affairs under the leadership of Dr Bello Gambo.

The election of the new executive officers of the party, which was conducted under a consensus arrangement, was overseen by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and conducted by a National Electoral Committee.

Speaking while presenting the new chairman and his 38 members, the Electoral Committee Chairman, Dr Aminu Abdullahi Taura, a former Secretary to the Jigawa State Government, said the process was carried out following the dissolution of the former caretaker committees.

“We have the mandate of the National Working Committee of our great party to conduct the consensus arrangement of selecting new leaders of the party from the 848 wards and 44 local governments plus the state office and we have concluded everything peaceful without rancour,” he said.

The National Youth Leader of the party, Ambassador Bello Ibrahim Aboki, said the Kabiru Tanimu Turaki faction had agreed to cement relationships within the party for its well-being.

He added that efforts were ongoing in Kano State to bring together Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau and Aminu Wali with the new leadership.

He said the PDP would never die, noting that it is the party Nigerians are familiar with and one that has never changed its name or logo. He added that a true patriotic member would not consider defecting from the party, “because he knew that our challenges are surmountable”.

Ambassador Bello noted that the likes of former governor Ibrahim Shekarau, Aminu Wali and others were yet to make up their minds to join them. “but I can tell you that hundreds of their supporters are trooping to us daily”.

He said that in Kano today they have Muhammad Sani Abacha as their leader, adding that he has been supporting members of the party in different ways.

The new chairman of the party, Dr Bello Gambo, promised to carry everyone along, saying that what the party needs at the moment is reconciliation and the building of a new viable front that would help it take over power in 2027.
