Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has revealed that a plot by some individuals to bomb the Ondo State Government House in Akure, the state capital was foiled by security operatives.
He made the revelation on Thursday during a national television programme, adding, that intelligence received months earlier alerted authorities to the suspicious activities linked to the suspects.
The governor said the group initially lodged in a hotel before relocating to a rented apartment, where security operatives later uncovered materials believed to be connected to the planned attack.
He said the intelligence triggered a coordinated operation involving the Nigeria Police Force and the Ondo State Security Network Agency (Amotekun).
“We have been doing so much. I will give you an example. About three or four months ago, some youths, about five of them, wanted to bomb the Ondo Government House.

“They were in a hotel before moving into a rented apartment, and they had all the equipment and gadgets. We got intelligence, and the police and Amotekun moved in and arrested them in the house,” the governor said.
Aiyedatiwa stated that investigations were ongoing to determine the motive behind the alleged plot.
He said the incident highlighted the importance of intelligence gathering and inter-agency collaboration in ensuring public safety.
According to him, many security efforts often go unnoticed because threats are neutralised before they materialise.
“Security is one responsibility that leaders carry, that is not always visible. It is only when there is a lapse that it appears as if the government has not done enough. We have been doing so much,” he said.
The governor also spoke about the growing collaboration among Southeast states in addressing insecurity.
He said governors in the region had strengthened intelligence sharing through the Amotekun Corps.
