The Nigeria Police Force says it has made major progress in tackling banditry and abductions in Kogi State after arresting 109 suspected criminals accused of disturbing peace across the state.

The state Commissioner of Police, Naziru Kankarofi, disclosed this shortly after the commissioning of a newly renovated Nigeria Police Area Command in Lokoja, the state capital during the weekend.

The police said the arrests came amid reports of repeated attacks in some parts of Kogi, adding that security operations have been stepped up to protect communities and rebuild public confidence.

According to the police, the development marks a major achievement in ongoing efforts to combat banditry, abductions, terrorism, and other security threats facing Kogi State and the country.

Speaking at the event, which also marked the commissioning of the renovated Area Command office funded by a philanthropist, Kankarofi briefed journalists on steps taken so far to address insecurity in the state.

The Commissioner appealed to residents to support security agencies by providing credible information that can help prevent crimes and dismantle criminal networks operating in different areas of Kogi.

Other speakers at the event reaffirmed their commitment to working closely with the Nigeria Police Force to improve security and protect lives and property across the state.
