Police arrest 11 students over killing of two colleagues in Kano

Eleven students from Government Boarding Secondary School, Bichi, have been apprehended by the Kano State Police Command in relation to the suspected murder of two fellow students.

Hamza Tofawa and Umar Dungurawa were allegedly attacked and killed by their schoolmates with sharp local metal objects known as ‘Gwale-Gwale’.

The murder of the students caused widespread condemnation leading to the Kano State Commissioner of Education, Ali Makoda, ordering a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The spokesperson for the command, Abdullahi Haruna, explained that the 11 arrested students are currently undergoing interrogation.

Haruna further stated that the students were arrested over the incident, adding that an investigation is ongoing to find out the level of their involvement in the killings.

The spokesman said that the police would do everything possible to unravel the circumstances behind the killings, adding that all those who are party to it would be prosecuted.

The Director of the Kano State Senior Secondary School Management Board, Abbas Abdullahi, expressed concern and called for restraint among students in order to apprehend those responsible for the killings.

He urged students not to misuse their privileges and take the law into their own hands, assuring that the state government was determined to get to the bottom of the case.

The Kano State Government has promised to leave no stone unturned in uncovering the truth behind the incident.
