Operatives of the Bauchi State Police Command have arrested a 28-year-old suspect and recovered a stolen motorcycle during a routine patrol in Bauchi metropolis.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, said in a statement issued on Saturday that the suspect, Hafiz Ahmad of Karofin Madaki, was intercepted at about 12 pm on July 4, 2026, by officers attached to the ‘E’ Division, Yelwa, around Yelwan Kagadama while riding an unregistered black Jiacheng ladies’ motorcycle valued at N450,000.
“Upon interrogation, the suspect confessed to having stolen the motorcycle from Unguwar Kusu in the Yelwa area of Bauchi,” the police said.
The command added that further investigation led officers to the rightful owner, a 23-year-old resident of the Federal Low-Cost Housing Estate identified as Mr Mohammed (surname withheld). After presenting documents proving ownership, the motorcycle was released to him.
The police said the suspect would be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of preliminary investigations.
Commending the officers involved, the Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, praised their vigilance and swift response.
“Members of the public should always ensure proper documentation of their vehicles and report any suspicious movement to the nearest police station,” the commissioner advised.
