Police arrest Edo woman over false school kidnapping alarm

Edo State Police Command has arrested one Uzebor Emmanuel, popularly known on social media as “Aza Woman,” for raising false alarms, alleging that students at Green Park Academy Aduwawa and Western Boys’ College Ikpoba Hill, Benin City were abducted by kidnappers.

The suspect had in a viral video, alleged that terrorists invaded the school and abducted some students.

According to the suspect, 6 students were kidnapped through various mini transport buses, claiming that, while some escaped from their abductors, others paid ransome.

The publications, according to the Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Eno Ikoedem, generated widespread apprehension, heightened public anxiety, and could undermine public confidence in the security architecture of the State.

In a statement on Sunday, the PPRO said the suspect will be “charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations”.

The command advised members of the public to “exercise restraint, verify information from credible sources before sharing, and refrain from using social media platforms to disseminate falsehoods capable of disturbing public peace and order”.
