Police arrest four for vandalising transformer in Kebbi

The Kebbi state police command has arrested four suspects for allegedly vandalising and attempting to steal a transformer belonging to the Government Girls Secondary School, Dakingari, in Bunza Local Government Area of the state.

Parading the suspects at the Command headquarters in Birnin Kebbi, the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Shafi’u Abubakar, said the incident occurred on September 10 after a gang of hoodlums invaded the school premises along Dakingari Road.

According to him, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Bunza acted on credible intelligence and mobilised a team of police officers and vigilantes to the scene, where the suspects were caught dismantling the transformer with chainsaws and other mechanical tools.

“At the scene, a black Toyota Corolla ‘Eagle Eyes’ with registration number KNT-359-SN, Niger State, was recovered. Two suspects, Sanusi Muhammad and Ibrahim Lawal, both from Sokoto State, were arrested while vandalising the transformer after tying up the school watchman, identified as Muhammad Danda Masa Nasharu,” Abubakar said.

Further investigation by the State Criminal Investigation Department led to the arrest of two fleeing suspects identified as Tasi’u Abubakar and Tasi’u Abdullahi, both from Zamfara State. Police also recovered the stolen armoured cables and tools used in the operation.

CSP Abubakar confirmed that the suspects will be charged in court once investigation is concluded.
