The Inspector General of Police (IGP) crack team has arrested one Ifechukwu Dennis who is said to have originated a fake audio recording of President Bola Tinubu.
This was made known by a presidential aide, Bayo Onanuga on his X handle on Friday.
He posted “The IGP crack team has arrested Ifechukwu Dennis who originated the fake voice that he passed on to his gullible targets as President Tinubu’s voice. Dennis was arrested in Benin. The police will issue an official statement”.
The audio recording had earlier sparked controversy as Onanuga had called for the arrest and prosecution of social media activist, Martins Otse popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM).

VDM had reacted by referring to Onanuga as a ‘stupid old fool’ for not verifying the video before calling him out
He had also alleged that the social media post linking him with the audio was a plan by the government to arrest and keep him out of circulation.
Earlier, Onanuga had also reposted that “A tech expert has just traced the origin of the fake AI voice note attributed to President Tinubu and revealed the true identity of suspected mastermind of the fake voice note: IFECHUKWU DENNIS”.
