The Rivers State Police Command has arrested a 29-year-old suspect, Robinson Uche, for the alleged murder of a 42-year-old man, Shedrack Ogadinma Chukwem, from Umuemeshie community in Igbo-Etche, Etche Local Government Area.

Operatives of the Anti-Cultism Unit, Emuohia Annex, arrested Uche in Etche on March 6, 2026, following what authorities described as sustained investigative efforts.

Police say the suspect confessed to participating in the killing, which reportedly occurred on December 17, 2025.

According to the police, the suspect alleged that he and four others were contracted by an individual identified as Chief Elijah Okere to bring the victim to his palace.

However, the plan reportedly failed, and during the encounter, the victim was shot dead.

The group is said to have later moved the body to a bush in Ekerre-Ugbor, where it was buried in a shallow grave.

The police said the suspect subsequently led operatives to the burial site, where the remains were recovered and deposited at the Military Hospital mortuary for autopsy.

The police said efforts are ongoing to apprehend other suspects who are currently at large.

Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the development, saying, “The suspect confessed to his involvement in the crime and provided details that led operatives to the burial site where the remains were recovered.”

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, Olugbenga Adewole Adepoju, reassured the public of the command’s commitment to justice, stating, “We remain resolute in pursuing all individuals connected to this crime and ensuring that justice is served.”
